So, what “auspicious writeup” can I jumble up for you all now? A writer, a lover of all things Star Trek, a word magician with a vision… too much? Yup. These are all things (sort of) about me.

I graduated a Comp Lit and World Lit BA a few years back after which I dabbled in American Studies where I got my MA degree after writing my thesis on, you guessed it, Star Trek.

Now seriously – I love Star Trek not just because it’s space, although I love that too – it’s scientific fiction. Not laser-sword fantasy. It’s based on complex interactions between humanity and full colorful spectrum of infinitely diverse alien cultures.

And the main conflict usually isn’t about who got the biggest gun. It’s about science, exploration, letting yourself dream that one day you too could diplomatically negotiate a peace treaty between five different alien species on a far-off planet. That’s Star Trek!

It’s about asking yourself: what would you do if a rebel officer decided to attack your ships, even though you’re both humans. Would you threaten to attack them back? But they’re humans too! Would you attack humans to protect an alien race from going to war with another alien race? WOULD YOU?! That’s Star Trek!

I also love other stuff geeky: from Star Wars to the MCU, Game of Thrones, to lots and lots of video games, and don’t forget books and comics, and movies. Oh, and I co-host the Melting Potter Podcast with Andreea – where I also make the music!

You’ll probably see me write about a little bit of everything! Hit me up wherever – I’m there.

From Skywalkers to superheroes; from a Gunslinger to Gollum; From a time travelling police box to a time travelling delorean, my obsession with everything fantastical and geeky began when I was around 6, aboard the USS Enterprise, with Captain Jean-Luc Picard at the helm.

Now, being 6 seems like a lifetime ago, and a lot has changed in my life but my love for all things geeky remains a constant.

Nowadays, I can usually be found binge-watching one of the hundreds of TV shows I’ve seen thousands of times before, shows like Rick and Morty, Doctor Who, Black Mirror, The Simpsons (strictly seasons 3-9 though!), reading any kind of fiction that grabs me (Stephen King is my favourite), or re-watching movies like Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, and anything Monty Python so often that I can recite the entire script!

When I find a spare hour I try to squeeze in some quality PS4 time, playing my favourites like the Fallout series, the Red Dead Redemption series, or The Batman Arkham series.

I attend Comic Con every year in London, albeit begrudgingly, only for the massacre it causes in my bank account!

When I’m not geeking out, I enjoy travelling, camping, hiking – just having some real-life adventures, trying to replicate my favourite heroes.

Hi all, I’m Meg and I first fell in love with the Harry Potter Universe when my third grade teacher began reading it aloud in class. That day after school I got home, snuck into my older brother Alex’s room, and stole his copy of Sorcerer’s Stone. It was the first chapter book that I ever read in a single day. The rest is history (of magic).

Each year I counted down the days for the next film or book to come out in an effort to rejoin the magic of the wizarding world. When the series ended, I thought that the magic was over. Fast forward to July 30th 2016. I had been studying Shakespeare abroad in London for a few weeks when I realized I would still be in the city for the midnight release of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child (which I have since seen 4 times and counting). Despite being a huge fan of the series, I had never been to a midnight release and this was my chance!

I made my way to Platform 9 ¾ at King’s Cross Station and waited with hundreds of other potterheads. It was the magical experience I had craved since I was a kid reading the series for the first time. I will never forget being there for as long as I live. It was everything I had ever imagined and more. My love for Harry Potter and the world J.K. Rowling had created was reignited. Since then I have immersed myself in the bookstagram community, and have surrounded myself with all things Harry Potter. I love to collect wands, different editions of the books, Funko Pops, and rereading/re-watching the books and films.

In everyday muggle life, I live on the east coast of the United States. I am a college graduate with a BA in Creative Writing, who somehow ended up working in accounting. I write mostly poetry and non-fiction. I am also the proud dog mom of a black goldendoodle, Bruno.

A few of my favorite book series are of course Harry Potter, A Darker Shade of Magic, and The Lord of the Rings/ The Hobbit. If you have any book suggestions, I will gladly take them! As a child of the 80s and 90s, my journey into geekdom was fuelled by warrior princesses, NeverEnding Stories, magical creatures, sword fights, and people going off on adventures. Nothing much has changed really!

I’ve always been drawn to stories, and my two great loves are Star Wars and World of Warcraft. I fall in love with fandoms easily, devouring everything I can get my hands on including games, spin-offs, and extra material. As a huge animal lover, I’m constantly asking my fiance if I can adopt every cute fantasy creature I come across. Although we already have two cats, Milo and George, I would quite happily have many more – even a zoo if I was allowed!

To me, knowledge is just another type of story, and I’m a huge knowledge sponge, always eager to learn something new. I have two degrees (Art History and English Literature) and I’m currently finishing my Masters in Information and Library Studies. My academic career has always been interwoven with fantasy and science fiction; for my Masters, I catalogued my video games collection, for example. While studying Art History, I learned about science fiction-esque cyberia and psychobabble, the fantastic creatures in manuscripts and modern esoteric and surrealist art. Then I was drawn to Children’s Literature, Science Fiction, and Celtic Studies while studying English Literature, rounding it off with a Creative Writing dissertation – with a fantasy short story, naturally.

Sharing stories and knowledge is a core part of who I am, and it bleeds into everything I do as a blogger. It is what draws me to write, and to share geeky products with people. I love finding products made specifically for geeks, especially fashion, art, and accessories that really capture the feeling of that particular fandom and make you feel like you’re back experiencing that magical moment all over again.

My days of writing Kingdom Hearts fanfiction are way behind me, these days I spend my time writing the first draft of my middle grade novel, writing book reviews and blogging about my favorite fandoms, tv, movies, books, and all things geeky. With a degree in journalism and background in creative writing and women’s studies, I like to focus on fierce complex female characters and diversity in fandoms and geek culture– think, POC, LGBTQ+, and differently abled representation. My library day job gives my grabby little hands endless access to middle grade, YA, and graphic novels, and new DVD and TV releases. You want the scoop on what’s new? You’ve got the right girl!

My passion for pop culture, fantasy books, comics, and Superheroes began with a Hobbit, a Saiyan, some dragons in a dungeon, and setting all phasers to stun.

Fairies and far away worlds from the next galaxy have always thrilled me to the point of wanting to go on an adventure.

And so, I left my Hobbit-hole and enjoyed more than eight years in Tokyo, where my passion for discovering new cultures, learning on the spot, and exploring through popular culture increased dramatically. Despite all the thrill, books and comics still pull me into their fantasy worlds with extreme ease giving me the spark of magic and inspiration.

My hobbies include learning new languages, writing new worlds while high on coffee, and reading comfortably while the fantasy world in the book is in flames. So, if one day you see a girl with greenish or blue hair writing in a coffee shop, oblivious and probably plotting mischief, that’s probably me. If not, it might be my ghost coding some masterplan for a new website, or my clone reading a fantasy book with drunk fairies and murderous mermaids.

If you were to look for me most days of the week, you would find me either in front of my laptop watching TV shows, or reading a book with my cats beside me.

I am a cultural studies MA graduate with a focus on American culture. At University, I studied movies, TV shows, visual arts, American literature, and graphic novels. I’ve always had a knack for writing, and I’ve written both my BA and MA thesis on popular culture topics: representations of femininity and mental illness, respectively.

I enjoy keeping up-to-date with TV shows and movies that strive to provide positive and accurate representations of different aspects of society and groups of people. Moreover, I am a geek at heart when it comes to franchises like Harry Potter and Star Wars. If you think I own too many Harry Potter bits and bobs, you’re definitely right.

Most of my other interests revolve around geekiness and popular culture as well. I am part of too many fandoms to list here, enjoy reading about cool products and gadgets, and try to write regularly about interesting and challenging topics in popular culture. If at least some of these things appeal to you as well, I am excited to have you here and I am looking forward to starting a conversation in the comments or via e-mail.

My fascination for everything geeky, be it science fiction or fantasy, began at an early age. I was eight years old when the first Harry Potter film came out, and I haven’t looked back since.

Fast-forward 17 years, ten books, and ten films, my passion grew into more than the magic of J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world.

These days, I enjoy collecting graphic novels and fawning over the mastery of Alan Moore and Frank Miller, reading anything sci-fi, watching the latest superhero film (Marvel or DC) as soon as it hits theaters, and arguing with my friends over what horror film to watch next. Oh, did I mention I’m a huge horror buff?

Finding a horror film to watch with me is next to impossible, because I’ve most likely seen it before. Still, I always love rewatching old favorites and introducing people to the best the genre has to offer. Thus, if you love a good scare, I’m your girl!

Nevertheless, TV shows will always be my number one hobby. I like to keep up with the latest releases so I can binge watch them (responsibly, of course). My educational background in pop culture and cultural studies might have something to do this, but I’m not complaining.
